Apple’s new variable aperture main camera can automatically adjust from f/1.48 all the way to f/4, letting in more light when needed while also giving photographers much more control over depth of field. And for the first time, Apple is bringing extensive Pro Controls to the iPhone camera, including manual aperture, shutter speed, white balance, focus peaking, histograms, and more.
But there’s a lot more here than variable aperture.
I also test Apple’s new Photographic Styles 3 with texture controls and film grain, post-capture Cinematic mode, stabilized 4K Dolby Vision timelapses, improved focus tracking, Apple Reference Image, and other new camera features.
