Apple Battersea is the 40th Apple Store in the UK and it is located inside the redeveloped Battersea Power Station on the Ground Floor in Turbine Hall A. The building is a decommissioned coal-fired power station, regarded as an iconic landmark owing to its Art Deco fittings and status as one of the world's largest brick constructions.

The store is positioned around four original brick piers from the 1930s, with exposed steel supports on the ceiling. The walls feature an overlaid oak framework of shelving and a revamped fixture set, defining a Genius Bar, hardware flex space, Apple Watch Studio, pickup area, and more. With the new design, Apple has increased the amount of circulation space around the edge of the store. New acoustic baffles on the ceiling improve acoustic clarity inside the store. Apple Battersea also uses more biomaterials to reduce reliance on carbon-intensive elements.


Apple had moved away from physical Genius Bar sections in its stores in recent years, but Apple Battersea has a dedicated Genius Bar in the left rear corner. This is the second fully fledged Genius Bar that Apple has installed in a store since 2015. The reimagined Genius Bar has a counter for stand-up service in addition to a lowered area where customers can be served sitting down.

The store's flexible hardware space is designed to spotlight Apple's latest devices and can be adapted over time. There is also an in-person Apple Watch Studio where customers can mix and match Apple Watch cases and bands.

Today at Apple sessions at the store draw inspiration from the local area, including photo and art tours around the building. In celebration of the opening of Apple Battersea, Apple Music will host live performances outside the store throughout the rest of the week.



Battersea Power Station is also home to Apple's new UK headquarters, with enough space for approximately 3,000 employees. Apple occupies around 40 percent of the entire building, including the top six floors inside the former boiler room around a central atrium. The company first announced plans for the new campus in 2016. Last year, Apple CEO Tim Cook told London's Evening Standard:

the 15-inch MacBook Air isn’t a carbon copy of the 13-inch Air. In addition to a 25% larger display, you get a larger trackpad and a 6-six speaker system compared to the Air’s 4-speaker setup. And once again Apple has found a way to deliver a much better balance of performance and endurance versus the best Windows laptops… [H]ow did Apple get this system so thin, why did the company decide to release a 15-inch Air now and what are some of the secrets behind this machine? We spoke with Kate Bergeron, Apple’s vice president of hardware engineering, and Laura Metz of Apple’s Mac product marketing team to find out.

Laura Metz: The Air is known for having this amazing feature set and awesome combination of performance and portability. It’s not just about being thin and light but also having amazing battery life so that you can use the device wherever you want to go throughout the day. And so we know that we’ve got users who don’t necessarily need the performance of a MacBook Pro to get that larger display. They just don’t necessarily need all that capability and performance, and so with Apple silicon it was a great opportunity to look at this.

Kate Bergeron: We worked very closely with the folks on our display team to understand how we can optimize the number of panels we can fit on a large set of the motherboard glass. And so, we knew we wanted to be in the 15-inch range, but we got the opportunity to push all the way out 15.3 inches because we could cut the other glass to that size. So, it’s nice that we could hit this sweet spot and even go just a tad bigger, which our customers will really appreciate.

Based on our hands-on impressions, the 15-inch MacBook Air isn’t all that different from last year’s 13-inch sibling. Both offer a similar set of features, including the same M2 processor and a MagSafe charging connector. However, the 15-inch Air might be the perfect laptop if you crave more screen real estate but don’t want to fork out extra money for Apple’s latest 14-inch MacBook Pro. It comes standard with a higher-resolution screen and two extra GPU cores, as well as a six-speaker sound system instead of a four-speaker one. We haven’t tested the 15-inch Air yet, but we will be publishing our full review soon, so stay tuned.

If all you need is a midrange phone that’ll nail the basics, Google’s Pixel 6A is a good option that’s currently matching its all-time low at multiple retailers. Regularly $449, you can buy the unlocked, last-gen phone with 128GB of storage for $299 ($150 off) from Amazon, Best Buy, and direct from the Google Store.

Before it was replaced by the Pixel 7A, the Pixel 6A was our favorite midrange Android phone. It may lack wireless charging and offer a slower 60Hz refresh rate than the newer 7A, but it shares some of the same great features. Just like the 7A, for example, the battery life is good, so it should last you a long time. It also features a pocketable 6.1-inch OLED panel, a good camera, and other features that are impressive for the price, including an IP67 rating for dust and water resistance.

M2 Ultra is built using a second-generation 5-nanometer process and uses Apple’s groundbreaking UltraFusion technology to connect the die of two M2 Max chips, doubling the performance. M2 Ultra consists of 134 billion transistors — 20 billion more than M1 Ultra.
