In the fast-paced and competitive landscape of the technology industry, attracting and retaining top-notch talent is crucial for sustained success.

In the fast-paced and competitive landscape of the technology industry, attracting and retaining top-notch talent is crucial for sustained success. For a global giant like Apple, known for its innovation and cutting-edge products, the quest for the best minds worldwide is paramount. In this article, we explore strategic approaches Apple could adopt to attract the best talent from around the world.

1. Building a Compelling Employer Brand

A powerful employer brand is the cornerstone of attracting top talent. Apple must focus on showcasing its unique workplace culture, commitment to innovation, and opportunities for professional growth. Leveraging social media, employer review platforms, and targeted marketing campaigns can amplify the perception of Apple as an employer of choice.

2. Global Talent Acquisition Strategy

Apple’s talent acquisition strategy should transcend geographical boundaries. Establishing a global talent network and partnerships with universities and research institutions worldwide can provide a continuous stream of diverse and highly skilled candidates. This strategy also involves participating in international job fairs and tech conferences to actively engage with potential candidates.

3. Emphasizing Diversity and Inclusion

To attract the best talent, Apple needs to create an inclusive and diverse work environment. This involves not only hiring talent from different backgrounds but also fostering a culture that values and celebrates diversity. An inclusive workplace promotes creativity and innovation, making it more appealing to a broad spectrum of professionals.

**4. Competitive Compensation and Benefits

Apple should offer competitive compensation packages and comprehensive benefits to stand out in the global job market. Salary transparency and clear career advancement paths can attract top-tier talent, while perks such as health benefits, flexible work arrangements, and employee development programs enhance the overall appeal of joining the company.

5. Investing in Employee Development

Top talent is often drawn to organizations that invest in their professional development. Apple can establish robust training programs, mentorship initiatives, and opportunities for skill enhancement. By demonstrating a commitment to employee growth, Apple can attract individuals seeking long-term career progression.

6. Remote Work Opportunities

The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated the acceptance of remote work. Apple can leverage this trend by offering flexible work arrangements, including remote and hybrid options. This approach broadens the talent pool by allowing the company to tap into skilled professionals worldwide, irrespective of their physical location.

7. Showcasing Impactful Projects

Apple’s history is filled with iconic products and projects. Showcasing the impact of its work not only on the tech industry but on society as a whole can inspire prospective employees. Highlighting the meaningful contributions employees make to projects can attract individuals who want to be part of something transformative.

8. Streamlining the Hiring Process

A lengthy and convoluted hiring process can deter top talent. Apple should streamline its recruitment process to ensure efficiency and a positive candidate experience. Utilizing advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence in resume screening, can help identify suitable candidates swiftly.

Conclusion

Attracting the best talent globally is an ongoing challenge for Apple, given the competitive nature of the tech industry. By strategically focusing on employer branding, global talent acquisition, diversity and inclusion, competitive compensation, employee development, remote work opportunities, impactful projects, and an efficient hiring process, Apple can create an environment that not only lures top talent but also retains and nurtures it for sustained success in the years to come.

Apple Wallet, the digital cardholder application, has undergone significant enhancements in recent years, paving the way for a more secure

Apple Wallet, the digital cardholder application, has undergone significant enhancements in recent years, paving the way for a more secure and convenient way to store and manage digital IDs and assets. These advancements are poised to revolutionize various aspects of our daily lives, from streamlining travel and access control to facilitating seamless financial transactions and digital asset ownership.

Secure Storage of Digital IDs

Apple Wallet has become the de facto standard for storing digital IDs, including driver’s licenses and state IDs. These digital credentials are protected by powerful encryption and security features, ensuring that they remain secure and accessible only to authorized users. Apple utilizes its secure enclave, a dedicated hardware chip designed to safeguard sensitive data, to store and protect digital IDs. This ensures that even if a device is lost or stolen, the digital IDs remain safe and encrypted.

Streamlined Travel Experience

Apple Wallet’s integration with digital IDs is particularly beneficial for travelers. With a simple tap of the iPhone, passengers can present their digital driver’s license or state ID at airport security checkpoints, streamlining the travel experience and minimizing the need for physical documents. This innovation not only saves time but also enhances security by eliminating the risk of lost or stolen IDs.

Enhanced Access Control

Apple Wallet is also playing a pivotal role in revamping access control systems. Hotels, offices, and other secure facilities can now utilize digital IDs stored in Apple Wallet to grant authorized access to their premises. This eliminates the need for physical access cards, reducing administrative burdens and enhancing security by ensuring that only authorized individuals can enter secured areas.

Seamless Financial Transactions

Apple Wallet is further revolutionizing the financial sector by enabling contactless payments using digital wallets. Users can simply tap their iPhone or Apple Watch to make secure payments at participating retailers, eliminating the need for physical wallets or cards. This innovation is not only convenient but also enhances hygiene and safety in light of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Secure Management of Digital Assets

The evolution of Apple Wallet extends beyond physical and digital IDs, encompassing the secure management of digital assets. Apple is paving the way for a decentralized financial system by enabling the storage and management of cryptocurrencies and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) within Apple Wallet. This will allow users to easily store, transfer, and trade digital assets securely and privately.

Conclusion

Apple Wallet’s enhancements are ushering in a new era of digital identity management and secure asset storage. These advancements will not only simplify our daily lives but also set the stage for a future where digital credentials, assets, and payments are seamlessly integrated into our world. As Apple Wallet continues to evolve, we can expect even more innovative and transformative applications that will reshape the way we interact with the digital world.

If you’re looking for an iPhone but don’t want to spend a fortune, the third-gen iPhone SE, Apple’s cheapest current handset, is the phone for you. It features a powerful processor (the A15, which also appeared in the flagship iPhone 13 Pro from 2021) at an affordable price, starting at $429 in the U.S. or £449 in the U.K.

For a phone that’s even cheaper, however, you may want to consider the second-gen iPhone SE from 2020. Apple no longer sells this device itself, but other vendors may still sell you one for a bargain price.

In this article we round up the best deals and discounts currently available on each iPhone SE model, as well as cheap bundle offers worth considering. We cover both SIM-free and contract deals, identifying which retailers which have the handsets in stock, and which offer the best price. If you want to get yourself an iPhone SE, read on for the best deals.

Amazon Prime Day

Amazon’s Prime Day sales event takes place on July 11 and 12, 2023. Prime Day might see some significant iPhone discounts, and then again it might not, but either way it’s probably worth waiting until then to see. You can read about the best Prime Day Apple deals in a separate article.

How much does the iPhone SE cost?

Apple’s most affordable iPhone starts at $429/£449. (And you can get it for less if you trade in an older qualifying phone.) The 2022 model is currently available in three configurations:

iPhone SE (2022, 64GB): $429 / £449 / AUD$719

iPhone SE (2022, 128GB): $479 / £499 / AUD$799

iPhone SE (2022, 256GB): $579 / £609/ AUD$969

That’s a slight price increase on the previous model. The 2020 iPhone SE is no longer available from Apple itself, but had the following MSRPs at launch:

iPhone SE (2020, 64GB): $399 / £399 / AUD$679

iPhone SE (2020, 128GB): $449 / £439 / AUD$759

(If you’re buying the iPhone SE we recommend that you avoid the lowest-capacity model. We explain in a separate article: Why you shouldn’t buy the 64GB iPhone SE.)

Where to buy iPhone SE (2022) SIM-free

Apple sells the new iPhone SE starting at $429/£419. You can buy from Apple right now. (That’s the U.S. store; depending on where you are, the U.K. store or the Australia store may be more suitable.)

It’s also available from other retailers, who in time will start to offer discounts on Apple’s price. But this phone is relatively cheap (at least by Apple’s standards) and still relatively new, so you’re unlikely to see any startling savings just yet. In the U.S., in fact, all the major retailers are sticking at Apple’s price.

The best option in the U.K. at time of writing is KRCS, which has the third-gen SE for £444.51: a dinky discount of £4.49.

Numerous retailers are stocking the iPhone SE. Just make sure you get the third-gen or 2022 version of the iPhone SE: many will continue to stock the second-gen model from 2020, which features the older A13 processor and doesn’t support 5G.

U.S. readers should check the following stores:

Where to buy iPhone SE (2022) on contract

Try the following stores and carriers for the best iPhone SE contract deals.

As mentioned above, make sure you’re getting the 2022 model with the A15 processor and 5G. It’s also bearing in mind that you’ll want the contract to include 5G support too: you need both hardware and contract to support the tech, and this may cost extra. If in doubt, ask a member of the sales support staff.

Trade-in discounts

Don’t forget you can save when you trade in your old qualifying phone with Apple or other retailers participating in a trade-in programme.

Apple offers up to hundreds of dollars off the iPhone SE when you trade in your old iPhone (but if your phone is older, you’ll likely get much less). You’ll have to select the trade-in option during purchase and answer a few questions about your existing phone model, storage capacity and condition. You’ll need to provide your IMEI number as well.
Refurbished deals

You can save on the iPhone SE by opting for a refurbished model. This is an excellent option for the second-gen model from 2020.

Although you’re buying a device that has been pre-owned, buying refurbished isn’t the same as simply buying second-hand, the main difference being that the product has been repaired and rigorously tested to ensure it works just like new. Refurbished devices often come with additional warranty arrangements for peace of mind if you are to run into any issues after purchase.

Decluttr (better known as MusicMagpie in the U.K.) is a great source to shop for refurbished deals, although right now its prices are higher than Amazon’s. You reduce the rate if you choose to trade-in your old device or old tech for cashback.

When shopping refurbished, look out for Apple Certified Refurbished products. These have been repaired, with parts replaced as needed, and thoroughly tested (and cleaned) to meet the Apple standard. You can find Apple Certified Refurbished iPhones from the Apple Refurbished Store.

We’ve also compared the original iPhone SE to the iPhone SE 2 if you want to know what kind of upgrades and differences to expect.

In the U.K. you could get even more money off if you trade-in via Currys PC World, which has offered up to £240 off previous iPhone SE models when you trade in an older iPhone. Head to Currys to see how much your device is worth.

Amazon offers some good trade-in values, so you should see if you can get more there. Check out Amazon’s Trade In program in the U.S.

We have a dedicated guide on buying refurbished iPhones with everything you need to know, as well as the best refurbished iPhone deals.

Wondering if there’s a more affordable option than the SE? We answer the question What is the cheapest iPhone? in a separate article. Our iPhone buying guide, meanwhile, offers in-depth advice for those looking to buy or upgrade.

Today Apple announced Self Service Repair will be available June 21 for the iPhone 14 lineup and additional Mac models, including the 13-inch MacBook Air and MacBook Pro powered by M2. Since April 2022, Self Service Repair has given anyone with experience repairing electronic devices access to the same manuals, genuine Apple parts, and tools used at Apple Store locations and Apple Authorized Service Providers.

Apple will also make the System Configuration process used for iPhone repairs, such as displays, batteries, and cameras, even easier to use. System Configuration is a postrepair software tool that ensures repairs with genuine Apple parts — designed and tested to internationally recognized standards — were completed correctly, and the parts are working properly. The tool is available for free to all Self Service Repair users and participating service providers in Apple repair programs.

Running System Configuration after a repair authenticates genuine Apple parts, updates firmware, and calibrates parts to ensure maximum performance and quality. Additionally, for repairs involving biometric authentication, such as Touch ID or Face ID, System Configuration links the biometric sensors to the Secure Enclave on the logic board to ensure device security and customer privacy.

Self Service Repair users can now initiate System Configuration by placing their devices into Diagnostics mode and following onscreen prompts. Users no longer need to contact the Self Service Repair support team to run the final step of a repair, but the team will still be available to assist as needed.

Self Service Repair will also be available for the True Depth camera and top speaker for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 lineups — as well as Mac desktops with M1 — in the U.S., Belgium, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Sweden, and the U.K.

Self Service Repair is part of Apple’s efforts to expand access to repairs. Widespread repair access plays an important role in extending products’ longevity, which is good for users and good for the planet. For the vast majority of users who do not have experience repairing electronic devices, visiting a professional authorized repair provider with certified technicians who use genuine Apple parts is the safest and most reliable way to get a repair.

Over the past three years, Apple has nearly doubled the number of service locations with access to genuine Apple parts, tools, and training, including more than 4,500 Independent Repair Providers. A global network of more than 5,000 Apple Authorized Service Providers supports more than 100,000 active technicians.

MacDailyNews Note: Self Service Repair is intended for individuals with the knowledge and experience to repair electronic devices. If you are experienced with the complexities of repairing electronic devices, Self Service Repair provides you with access to genuine Apple parts, tools, and repair manuals to perform your own out-of-warranty repair.

As some subreddits continue blackouts to protest Reddit’s plans to charge high prices for its API, Reddit has informed the moderators of those subreddits that it has plans to replace resistant moderation teams to keep spaces “open and accessible to users.”

In a comment shared by r/Apple moderator @aaronp613, Reddit cited its Moderator Code of Conduct and said that it has a duty to keep communities “relied upon by thousands or even millions of users” operational. Mods who do not agree to reopen subreddits that have gone private will be removed.

If a moderator team unanimously decides to stop moderating, we will invite new, active moderators to keep these spaces open and accessible to users. If there is no consensus, but at least one mod wants to keep the community going, we will respect their decisions and remove those who no longer want to moderate from the mod team.

Between Monday and Wednesday of this week, the majority of popular subreddits on the Reddit site participated in a “blackout” and went private or stopped allowing new posts to be made in order to protest planned API changes that will cause the shutdown of popular third-party Reddit apps like Apollo.

Reddit is just digging the hole deeper and deeper.

They are essentially threatening moderators of subreddits that are blacking out indefinitely that they will be removed. https://t.co/IeU3inmyf4 pic.twitter.com/HF4t3EO1JS

— Aaron (@aaronp613) June 15, 2023

The move was aimed at pushing Reddit to enact fairer pricing for developers and to give developers more time to adopt the API changes, but Reddit opted to wait out the protests rather than make adjustments.

As a result, some subreddits such as r/Apple made the decision to continue the blackout indefinitely, which means millions of Reddit users no longer have access to those communities. It seems Reddit plans to forcibly end further blackouts by removing entire moderation teams that are participating.

On Monday, Reddit CEO Steve Huffman said that the blackouts had not caused “any significant revenue impact so far” and that while there was a “lot of noise” amid the planned two-day protest, it would “pass.” In an interview with The Verge today, Huffman further said that Reddit’s API was “never designed to support third-party apps” and that the apps don’t add much value to the site. Reddit created its API for “tools, bots and enhancements to Reddit,” according to Huffman.

Huffman confirmed that the blackouts have made no change to Reddit’s API pricing plan. “That’s our business decision, and we’re not undoing that business decision,” said Huffman. Huffman said in the interview that Reddit will not force communities to reopen, which contradicts the messaging that moderators are receiving.

Reddit also just published a blog post with “key facts” about the API updates. In the post, Reddit says that “dissent, debate, and discussions are foundational parts of Reddit,” and that it respects the right of its community to protest, so long as mods follow the Moderator Code of Conduct. The Moderator Code of Conduct is what Reddit is citing in messaging to moderators about moderation teams being removed from closed communities.

Moderators and Reddit users are unhappy with Reddit’s decision to charge an unreasonable amount for its API, and for the short 30-day timeline that third-party developers have been given to adopt the new API fees.

Apollo developer Christian Selig determined that adopting the API would cost him $20 million per year, leading him to decide to shut down his app on June 30, a day before Reddit begins charging. As of July 1, there will be few if any third-party apps for viewing Reddit content, pushing Reddit users to either the Reddit website or the Reddit app.

Reddit CEO Steve Huffman on Monday told Reddit employees that he is unconcerned about current protests over the company's sudden API changes. In a letter shared by The Verge, Huffman said that while there's a "lot of noise" right now, it "will pass." He also said that Reddit "has not seen any significant revenue impact so far."

A number of community-moderated subreddits began shutting down and going private on Monday, June 12, with the blackout set to last until Wednesday, June 14 in many cases. Subreddits with millions of subscribers are participating in the protest. Going private means that no new posts are able to be submitted to a given subreddit, and in some cases, the content from the subreddit is not viewable at all.

Huffman's full letter is below:
Starting last night, about a thousand subreddits have gone private. We do anticipate many of them will come back by Wednesday, as many have said as much. While we knew this was coming, it is a challenge nevertheless and we have our work cut out for us. A number of Snoos have been working around the clock, adapting to infrastructure strains, engaging with communities, and responding to the myriad of issues related to this blackout. Thank you, team.

We have not seen any significant revenue impact so far and we will continue to monitor.

There's a lot of noise with this one. Among the noisiest we've seen. Please know that our teams are on it, and like all blowups on Reddit, this one will pass as well. The most important things we can do right now are stay focused, adapt to challenges, and keep moving forward. We absolutely must ship what we said we would. The only long term solution is improving our product, and in the short term we have a few upcoming critical mod tool launches we need to nail.

While the two biggest third-party apps, Apollo and RIF, along with a couple others, have said they plan to shut down at the end of the month, we are still in conversation with some of the others. And as I mentioned in my post last week, we will exempt accessibility-focused apps and so far have agreements with RedReader and Dystopia.

I am sorry to say this, but please be mindful of wearing Reddit gear in public. Some folks are really upset, and we don't want you to be the object of their frustrations.

Again, we'll get through it. Thank you to all of you for helping us do so.
While the protest was only meant to last for a couple of days, Huffman's callous response to user and moderator concerns could potentially escalate the situation. Some subreddits have already pledged to remain inaccessible until Reddit makes a meaningful change. Popular Apple-related subreddit r/Apple, for example, has decided to remain closed indefinitely.

While I can't speak for the entire r/Apple mod team I can say that we have voted to stay closed indefinitely due to Reddit's CEO's poor decision-making. https://t.co/JyIT2qYbf4
— Aaron (@aaronp613) June 13, 2023

The blackouts are in support of third-party Reddit app Apollo and other third-party apps, some of which will soon be forced offline by the amount of money that Reddit wants to charge for API access and the limited mount of time that developers have to make changes before accruing fees.

Apollo developer Christian Selig said that his app would cost $20 million per year, which is why he made the decision to shut it down on June 30. Apollo and other third-party apps offer a range of features that are not available through the subpar official Reddit app.

Reddit does not offer a similar app experience for users or for moderators, who also use Apollo as a moderation tool. Subreddit moderators work for free, overseeing their respective communities with no compensation. Moderators have expressed growing frustration at the lack of tools provided to them by Reddit, and have said that the loss of Apollo will make their work harder.

Huffman has refused to back down on the API pricing changes or the implementation timeline, and he has also maligned Selig multiple times, lying about the interactions that Reddit had with Apollo despite documentation provided by Selig.

As of right now, more than 8,000 subreddits with millions of Reddit users have gone dark.
Tags: Apollo, Reddit

This article, "Reddit CEO: Apollo-Related Subreddit Blackouts 'Will Pass,' No Significant Revenue Impact So Far" first appeared on MacRumors.com

Discuss this article in our forums
<br

And as I mentioned in my post last week, we will exempt accessibility-focused apps and so far have agreements with RedReader and Dystopia.

I am sorry to say this, but please be mindful of wearing Reddit gear in public. Some folks are really upset, and we don’t want you to be the object of their frustrations.

Again, we’ll get through it. Thank you to all of you for helping us do so.

While the protest was only meant to last for a couple of days, Huffman’s callous response to user and moderator concerns could potentially escalate the situation.

In a video released today, Apple has outlined several improvements coming to the Wallet app and Apple Pay with iOS 17. The software update is currently in beta and will be released to the public later this year for the iPhone XS and newer.

A major redesign for the Wallet app that was rumored ahead of WWDC never materialized, with only modest changes made in iOS 17.

Apple Pay order tracking is getting several enhancements, including Apple Maps support, receipts for transactions, the ability to add an order to the Wallet app from an email attachment, and a new "Track with Apple Wallet" button for apps and websites.

If a user is tracking an Apple Pay order with a specified pickup time and location, the Maps app will now proactively suggest it through Siri Suggestions.

Merchants can now attach a receipt to Apple Pay orders as a PDF or image file, so the customer has a record of payment in the Wallet app. Merchants can also now attach Apple Pay orders to emails, such as the order confirmation email. The customer can then tap on the email attachment in the Mail app and add the order to the Wallet app.
Apple has also introduced a new "Track with Apple Wallet" button that merchants can add within their iPhone apps and websites.
As previously announced by Apple, iPhone users will be able to present a driver's license or ID stored in the Wallet app at participating businesses and venues starting later this year. Users will simply hold their iPhone or Apple Watch near the business's iPhone to verify their age and identity for things like alcohol, rental cars, and more.
Apple calls this feature Tap to Present ID on iPhone and provides more details in its video.
Related Roundups: Apple Pay, iOS 17

Tag: Apple Wallet

Related Forum: Apple Music, Apple Pay/Card, iCloud, Fitness+

This article, "Here's What's New in iOS 17 for Wallet and Apple Pay" first appeared on MacRumors.com

Discuss this article in our forums
<br
