The Global Fund this week said that Apple raised a total of $3 million for the organization, which is dedicated to fighting HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria in developing countries.

Apple capped donations at $3 million, so that means Apple customers raised the total possible amount through their purchases. Apple ran the promotion from November 28 through December 7 to fund critical health programs that save lives.

Apple has long supported The Global Fund with similar promotions and through sales of devices manufactured in (PRODUCT)RED colors. Apple has not offered any of its iPhones or accessories in (PRODUCT)RED colorways since the launch of the 2022 iPhone 14 models, but it does raise money each December in honor of World AIDS Day.

Apple has raised more than $250 million for The Global Fund during its 19-year partnership with the (RED) brand.

Apple has announced that it will again donate $5 to The Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria for every purchase made using Apple Pay on Apple.com, through the Apple Store app, or at an Apple Store in the U.S. and many other countries from today through December 7. Apple’s donation this year will be capped at $3 million.

The Global Fund is a public-private partnership that aims to combat diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria throughout the developing world. Apple says that its annual donation will “help fund critical health programs that save lives.”

Apple runs this donation campaign ahead of World AIDS Day on December 1 each year.

Apple has supported The Global Fund for 19 years through its partnership with the (RED) brand, co-founded by U2 singer Bono. However, Apple no longer offers any devices in the charitable (PRODUCT)RED color, so the partnership feels less prominent now. The only product still available in (PRODUCT)RED is a single iPhone 14 case.

Last year, Apple said it had raised more than $250 million for (RED) to date.

Apple’s lineup of (PRODUCT)RED products continues to shrink. In fact, there are no longer any devices available in the charity-supporting color option.

Since 2006, Apple has partnered with the (RED) brand to raise money for The Global Fund, an organization that aims to combat diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria in Africa. Through this partnership, Apple has long offered a (PRODUCT)RED option for some products, but availability of the color continues to dwindle.

The latest example is the new iPhone 16e, which is not available in (PRODUCT)RED.

With the iPhone SE, iPhone 14, and iPhone 14 Plus now discontinued, the final devices that were available in (PRODUCT)RED are no longer on sale. The only (PRODUCT)RED products that remain available are a few cases for older iPhone models.

In addition, Apple has used different branding for newer Beats products available in red, such as Statement Red and Transparent Red.

All in all, (PRODUCT)RED seems to be on its way out, but Apple could always decide to revitalize the partnership in the future.

Apple continues to support The Global Fund through its annual Apple Pay donation program, which ran from November 29 through December 8 last year.

“Thank you, Apple and Apple customers for hitting this incredible milestone and helping provide life-saving healthcare in vulnerable communities,” said (RED).

Last month, Apple announced that it would again donate $5 to The Global Fund for every purchase made using Apple Pay on Apple.com, through the Apple Store app, or at an Apple Store from November 29 through December 8.

The Global Fund aims to combat diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria throughout the developing world. Apple said its donation to the organization will continue to “help fund critical health programs that save lives.”

Apple runs this donation campaign ahead of World AIDS Day on December 1 each year.

Apple said it has raised more than $250 million to date.

The number of Apple products available in (PRODUCT)RED has dwindled in recent years.

Since 2006, Apple has partnered with the (RED) brand to raise money for The Global Fund, an organization that aims to combat diseases such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria in Africa. Through this partnership, Apple has long offered a (PRODUCT)RED color option for some products, but it has scaled back this effort over the past few years.

The only current-generation (PRODUCT)RED product that Apple sells new is the iPhone SE 3, which is expected to be discontinued in March. Beyond that, its only remaining (PRODUCT)RED products are the iPhone 14 and a handful of older iPhone cases.

Apple did not offer any iPhone 15 models in (PRODUCT)RED, and that trend has continued with iPhone 16 models so far. It did offer the aluminum Apple Watch Series 9 in (PRODUCT)RED last year, but that device has since been discontinued, and the color option is not available for the Apple Watch Series 10. Apple also discontinued the (PRODUCT)RED version of the Sport Band that was available alongside the Series 9.

In addition, Apple has used different branding for newer Beats products available in red, such as Statement Red and Transparent Red.

Does this mean Apple is slowly phasing out the (PRODUCT)RED brand? It’s hard to say for sure yet, as the color could return from time to time more selectively. The number of products available in (PRODUCT)RED has certainly dwindled over the past two years, though, so the future of the color seems to be in jeopardy.

Apple continues to support The Global Fund through its annual Apple Pay donation program, which returns from November 29 through December 8.

While the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are available in a variety of colors, there is currently no (PRODUCT)RED option for the devices. However, there is a decent possibility that the color will make a reappearance early next year.

Apple has released at least one new iPhone in (PRODUCT)RED every year since 2017, so it seems probable that the color could be introduced for the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus in March or April of 2024, in order to boost sales of the devices midway through their product cycle. This is exactly what happened with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 8 series, which both gained a (PRODUCT)RED option about six to seven months after their initial release.

It’s unclear if the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max would also be made available in (PRODUCT)RED early next year. Earlier this year, 9to5Mac reported that Apple tested a dark red color option for the iPhone 15 Pro models, but leaker @URedditor disputed this claim. Regardless of whether or not the color was tested, there is always a first time for everything, so we shall see what transpires.

iPhone models released in (PRODUCT)RED over the years:

2022: iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, and the third-generation iPhone SE

2021: iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 mini

2020: iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, and the second-generation iPhone SE

2019: iPhone 11

2018: iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone XR

2017: iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus

Other mid-cycle color additions have included yellow for the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus in March 2023, green for the entire iPhone 13 lineup in March 2022, and purple for the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini in April 2021.

But first, we have something that won’t be showing up during Monday’s keynote—or ever. According to images shared by Twitter user Kosutami, Apple made alternate versions of AirPods and iPhone accessories that never saw the light of day.

Kosutami claims Apple made “colored” prototypes of the MagSafe charging puck similar to the MacBook charging cable that comes in silver, space gray, and midnight, “but with more saturation.” The leaker shares an image of a Magsafe charger with a gold ring and cable to illustrate the rumor.

They also claim Apple was once working on a “Magic Charger” that looked something like a larger version of the Apple Watch Magnetic Charging Dock that was discontinued last year. According to Kosutami, the Magic Charger would have been sold in the same array of colors, presumably gold, silver, space gray, and a variety of other colors.

In a follow-up report, Kosutami also shared images of the first-gen AirPods case in pink to match the rose gold iPhone 7. The report claims Apple planned to launch the first-gen AirPods in “Pink, ProductRED, Purple, Black, Blonde.” The leaker claims Apple was planning on launching a purple iPhone 7 but canceled it at the last minute.
