As noted by MacStories‘ Federico Vittici, if you take a photo of a tag with laundry symbols, it is highlighted through the Visual Lookup feature, and can be tapped for a symbol translation.



The iPhone will provide an explanation for each symbol that is on the tag, with a tap on the explanation able to provide more information from the website that Apple is sourcing. Apple is getting information for laundry instructions from the Online Browsing Platform that is run by the International Organization for Standardization.

Visual Lookup appears to recognize all of the laundry symbols that we tested with, including washing machine temperatures, bleaching recommendations, dryer restrictions, ironing temperatures, and more. It should recognize almost any laundry tag, but note that the image does need to be fairly zoomed in for the ‌iPhone‌ to detect the symbols.



Visual Lookup is also able to detect car symbols on vehicle dashboards, so it looks like Apple has quietly added Visual Lookup support for many of the common symbols that you might come across in your day to day life.

Apple’s upcoming Vision Pro headset will feature a new augmented reality (AR) version of the Visual Lookup feature found in iPhones and iPads. This feature, dubbed “Visual Search,” will allow wearers to get information about various items by simply looking at them.

The feature was discovered by MacRumors contributor Steve Moser, who inspected code within the Xcode beta of visionOS, Apple’s AR and reality operating system that will power the Vision Pro headset. Moser found references to Visual Search in the code, which suggests that the feature is still under development.

Visual Search is expected to work by using the Vision Pro headset’s cameras to scan the environment and identify objects. Once an object is identified, the headset will then display information about the object, such as its name, description, and price.

Visual Search could be a powerful tool for users who want to learn more about the world around them. For example, users could use Visual Search to identify plants and animals, learn about historical landmarks, or even find product information while shopping.

Below we’ve listed eight new photo-related features and improvements coming with Apple’s latest mobile operating system, which is expected to get its official release in the fall. Can’t wait until then? The iOS 17 beta is available now.

1. Pet Recognition

In ‌iOS 17‌, Apple has improved the image recognition capabilities of the Photos app, which can now recognize not only your family and friends, but also your beloved pets.



The ‌‌Photos‌‌ app’s ability to detect animals isn’t new, but now it can identify animals that are important to you by taking into account the number of photos that you have of them. That’s why the “People” album has become the “People and Pets” album, where you can add the names of your pets and confirm additional photos.

2. One-Tap Crop

In iOS 16, cropping images in the ‌Photos‌ app involves tapping into the Edit interface, choosing the crop tool, and adjusting the crop from there with either pinch zoom gestures or by dragging the corners of the cropping tool.



In ‌iOS 17‌, Apple has made the process quicker and easier. Now when you zoom into an image, there’s a new “Crop” button that appears in the upper right. Tapping it brings up the crop interface with the zoom level that you’ve selected, so you can crop into the part of the image that you prefer with just a couple of taps.

3. Turn Photos into Animated Stickers

In ‌iOS 16‌, Apple added a neat “remove subject from background” tool for plucking things out of images. In ‌iOS 17‌, Apple has supercharged the feature, and now you can use it to make your own custom animated stickers for use in Messages.



When long-pressing a subject in a photo, the pop-up menu includes a new “Add Sticker” option that exports the selected subject into Messages’ sticker interface. From there, you can add effects like a white sticker outline, a “puffy” sticker effect, a glittery effect, and more. Subjects pulled from Live Photos even have the option of animating.

4. Get Recipes for Food

When viewing your photos, Apple has enhanced Visual Look Up in ‌iOS 17‌ in a few ways, one being the ability to find recipes for similar dishes when meals are recognized in the picture.



When an image of food is identified in the ‌Photos‌ app, a knife and fork icon appears at the bottom of the interface. The Look Up Food option gives you direct links to recipe websites, so now you can get inspiration about what to cook, without having to trawl the web yourself in Safari.

5. Straighten Your Shooting Angle

For the last few years, the Camera app’s Grid mode has included a somewhat-hidden leveling feature for top-down photos, popping up a floating crosshair to help make sure you’re lined up properly above your subject.



In ‌iOS 17‌, Apple has enhanced the camera leveling functionality, separating it out from the Grid mode to its own option and expanding it to include a horizontal level for more traditional straight-on photos.

The Level option displays a broken horizontal line on the screen when your ‌iPhone‌ senses you’re lining up for a straight-on shot and you tilt your device slightly out of horizontal. The line appears white while your phone is out of level and then turns yellow once you achieve a level orientation to indicate success.

6. Look Up What You Just Lifted

In ‌iOS 17‌, when you use the “remove subject from background” tool, you can now look up information about the subject in question, thanks to a new option in the popup menu.



Not only that, the ‌Photos‌ app now also offers the ability to pause video on any frame and look up information on a subject.

7. Visual Look Up for Auto Symbols

Apple hasn’t publicly promoted this feature, but Reddit users digging into the ‌iOS 17‌ beta have discovered that Visual Look Up can now detect car symbols on vehicle dashboards.

When the ‌Photos‌ app identifies one or more symbols in an image, ‌iOS 17‌ presents the name of the icon and a short description of its meaning, and offers up links to learn more about each symbol in Safari.

8. Tweaked Editing Tools Interface

Lastly, Apple in ‌iOS 17‌ has made some quality of life improvements to the ‌Photos‌ app editing interface to make it a little more intuitive. The Cancel and Done buttons have been moved from the bottom of the screen to the top, and the tool icons have been given text descriptions to make their function clearer.

In order to make it more obvious whether Adjust, Filters, or Crop is currently selected, Apple has also changed the indicator from a yellow circle beneath the active icon, to a triangle pointing down at it from above.

Ping Apple Watch

If you have an Apple Watch paired to your iPhone, Apple has added an optional button in Control Center that enables you to ping your watch if you have misplaced it. (H/T Aaron.)

Improved Spotlight Siri Suggestions

When pulling down on the Home Screen to access search, you’ll see some neat new contextual tricks have been added to Siri Suggestions, like the suggestion to create a timer or a new note if you’ve used those apps recently. When you search for a specific app like Photos, you’ll also get app shortcuts to your next action, allowing you to jump right into your Favorites album, for example.



You can now also toggle certain system settings directly from within ‌Siri‌ Suggestions results. You can, for example, enable a Focus, turn on Airplane Mode, or disable your iPhone 14 Pro‘s Always On Display.

Multiple Timers

It’s taken this long, but iOS finally supports multiple timers.



Each timer you set can be given a label, which helps you identify it in a list. For added convenience, the list will also include any recent completed timers that you used. When several timers are running simultaneously, all of them will be listed on the Lock Screen, and the last one you set will appear in the Dynamic Island.

Safari “Listen to Page” Feature

In Safari, Apple has added a new “Listen to Page” option to the aA menu in the address bar. Tap it, and ‌Siri‌ will read the contents of the currently loaded webpage out loud.



When ‌Siri‌ is reading it to you, the same option changes to “Pause Listening,” and if you choose to pause, it switches to “Resume Listening” so you can pick up where you left off.

Visual Lookup for Meals

When viewing photos, Apple has enhanced Visual Look Up in a few ways, the most notable being the ability to find recipes for similar dishes when meals are recognized in the picture.



In addition, you can now look up information from a subject you just lifted from a photo, and you can also pause video on any frame to look up info on a subject.

Fitness+ Custom Plans

Fitness+ includes a new feature called Custom Plans, where you can create your own weekly workout and meditation schedule to enhance your motivation.



Plan options include the ability to set a total workout/meditation time per day, set a plan length, and choose your activity types. You can also select preferred Fitness+ trainers and the type of music that you want in your plan.

Other Features and Tidbits

  • New Control Center slider animations

  • Interrupt ‌Siri‌ and make back-to-back requests without reactivation

Apple put a lot of effort into making its early slate of Apple TV+ original shows a little bit of something for everyone. All the company needed was one breakout hit to put the service on the map.

While the quality was good, none of the shows got that “everyone is talking about it” quality until, almost a year after the debut of Apple TV+, one of the shows that weren’t very heavily promoted became a runaway hit. Combing niceness and good cheer with soccer seems like a recipe that could never succeed in the U.S., but Ted Lasso managed to charm everyone just the same. The show immediately became the most-watched show on Apple TV+.

The first season received 20 Emmy nominations, and it won seven. The second season also got 20 nominations and won four. After a long break, “Ted Lasso” is finally back for its third, and likely final season. If it continues, it will likely be in a different form following one of the other characters.

When is ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 3 streaming?

The third season of “Ted Lasso” debuted with the first episode on Wednesday, March 15. New episodes followed weekly on Wednesdays with the final airing on May 31. If that sounds strange to you, it is. Apple TV+ shows generally debut on Fridays, including previous seasons of “Ted Lasso.” This is Apple’s was the first mid-week show on the service.

How many episodes are there?

There will be 12 episodes in “Ted Lasso” Season 3, just like Season 2. Here is the episode list:

Here’s how Apple describes the third season plot: In the third season of Ted Lasso, the newly-promoted AFC Richmond faces ridicule as media predictions widely peg them as last in the Premier League and Nate, now hailed as the “wonder kid,” has gone to work for Rupert at West Ham United. In the wake of Nate’s contentious departure from Richmond, Roy Kent steps up as assistant coach, alongside Beard. Meanwhile, while Ted deals with pressures at work, he continues to wrestle with his own personal issues back home, Rebecca is focused on defeating Rupert, and Keeley navigates being the boss of her own PR agency. Things seem to be falling apart both on and off the pitch, but Team Lasso is set to give it their best shot anyway.

Will this be the last season of ‘Ted Lasso’?

It looks like it! In an interview with Deadline, the show’s star, Jason Sudeikis, said, “This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell.” Sudeikis does seem open to the idea of spinoff series. In an Instagram post following the final episode, Brett Goldstein, who plays Roy Kent, wrote, “I will miss getting to live in that world with them.”

Goldstein, who is also a writer and producer on the series, was quoted in a piece in The Times U.K. as saying that the show was always planned as three seasons, a sentiment echoed by Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt (coach Beard). When asked if season three would be the last, he said, “We are writing it like that.”

But in none of Apple’s promotional material is season 3 hailed as the grand finale for Ted Lasso. However, Apple also hasn’t announced that the show has been picked up for a fourth season, which also seems odd given the show’s popularity and the rumors about the final season.

It appears that Apple and the show’s creators were perhaps not prepared for how successful and beloved the show would be, and it would likely only take some small changes to the Season 3 finale to leave the door open for further seasons.

While the quality was good, none of the shows got that “everyone is talking about it” quality until, almost a year after the debut of Apple TV+, one of the shows that weren’t very heavily promoted became a runaway hit. Combing niceness and good cheer with soccer seems like a recipe that could never succeed in the U.S., but Ted Lasso managed to charm everyone just the same. The show immediately became the most-watched show on Apple TV+.

The first season received 20 Emmy nominations, and it won seven. The second season also got 20 nominations and won four. After a long break, “Ted Lasso” is finally back for its third, and maybe final, season. Here’s everything we know about it so far.

When is ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 3 streaming?

The third season of “Ted Lasso” debuted with the first episode on Wednesday, March 15. New episodes will follow weekly on a Wednesday.

If that sounds strange to you, it is. Apple TV+ shows generally debut on Fridays, including previous seasons of “Ted Lasso.” “Ted Lasso”‘s third season will be the first mid-week show on the service.

How many episodes will there be?

There will be 12 episodes in “Ted Lasso” Season 3, just like Season 2, which means the finale will air on May 31. Here is the episode list, as they are announced:

Will this be the last season of ‘Ted Lasso’?

It looks like it! In an interview with Deadline, the show’s star, Jason Sudeikis, said, “This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell.” Sudeikis does seem open to the idea of spinoff series.

Brett Goldstein, who plays Roy Kent and is also a writer and producer on the series, was quoted in a piece in The Times U.K. as saying that the show was always planned as three seasons, a sentiment echoed by Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt (coach Beard). When asked if season three would be the last, he said, “We are writing it like that.”

But in none of Apple’s promotional material is season 3 hailed as the grand finale for Ted Lasso. However, Apple also hasn’t announced that the show has been picked up for a fourth season, which also seems odd given the show’s popularity and the rumors about the final season.

It appears that Apple and the show’s creators were perhaps not prepared for how successful and beloved the show would be, and it would likely only take some small changes to the Season 3 finale to leave the door open for further seasons.
