We need a break and will take one presently. Nothing has been ruled out, everything is possible; but that includes the possibility that we’re done. We won’t know until we’ve sat with it for a while, decompressed, etc.”

In the first – and, potentially, only – three seasons of “Ted Lasso,” Jason Sudeikis plays Ted Lasso, a small-time college football coach from Kansas hired to coach a professional soccer team in England, despite having no experience coaching soccer.

[Apple CEO] Tim Cook came to visit the set one day, and when he had his moment to speak in the middle of the locker room, he said, “Thank you for all your hard work, and I sure hope there’s a Season 4.” The position was made very clear, with a Beard-style modicum of vocabulary. Everything’s on the table now, including nothing. It’s been an all-in job for us for so long that we’re going to go away for a little bit and take a break, and then we’ll reconvene and figure out if something else is going to happen.

MacDailyNews Take: Looks like they’re going to rely on the strength of the characters to drive “Ted Lasso” (or a newly-named series, “AFC Richmnond,” perhaps?) without “Ted Lasso” himself, or with reduced work for Sudeikis where we check in with him from time to time as he bonds with his son (season 3 set the stage for that, moving Ted into a noticeably lesser role).

In December 2020, co-creator Bill Lawrence said that “Ted Lasso” would likely end after just season 3 because Sudeikis has a family with young children, and likely will not want to be spending half of each of these precious years in London, an ocean apart from his kids.

“Ted Lasso” is Apple TV+’s main tentpole. Apple will make a monetary offer that Sudekis cannot refuse and the rest is simple: Ted Lasso, after successfully topping the EPL, finds himself in high demand and, lured by big money in America, moves back home along with Coach Beard, Coach Kent, (and possible others) to coach a Major League Soccer team in the U.S. in Season 4. — MacDailyNews, March 7, 2022

Combing niceness and good cheer with soccer seems like a recipe that could never succeed in the U.S., but Ted Lasso managed to charm everyone just the same. The show immediately became the most-watched show on Apple TV+.

The first season received 20 Emmy nominations, and it won seven. The second season also got 20 nominations and won four. After a long break, “Ted Lasso” is finally back for its third, and likely final season. If it continues, it will likely be in a different form following one of the other characters.

When is ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 3 streaming?

The third season of “Ted Lasso” debuted with the first episode on Wednesday, March 15. New episodes followed weekly on Wednesdays with the final airing on May 31. If that sounds strange to you, it is. Apple TV+ shows generally debut on Fridays, including previous seasons of “Ted Lasso.” This is Apple’s was the first mid-week show on the service.

It looks like it! In an interview with Deadline, the show’s star, Jason Sudeikis, said, “This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell.” Sudeikis does seem open to the idea of spinoff series. In an Instagram post following the final episode, Brett Goldstein, who plays Roy Kent, wrote, “I will miss getting to live in that world with them.”

Goldstein, who is also a writer and producer on the series, was quoted in a piece in The Times U.K. as saying that the show was always planned as three seasons, a sentiment echoed by Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt (coach Beard). When asked if season three would be the last, he said, “We are writing it like that.”

But in none of Apple’s promotional material is season 3 hailed as the grand finale for Ted Lasso. However, Apple also hasn’t announced that the show has been picked up for a fourth season, which also seems odd given the show’s popularity and the rumors about the final season.

It appears that Apple and the show’s creators were perhaps not prepared for how successful and beloved the show would be, and it would likely only take some small changes to the Season 3 finale to leave the door open for further seasons.

The third season of “Ted Lasso” debuted with the first episode on Wednesday, March 15. New episodes will follow weekly on a Wednesday.

If that sounds strange to you, it is. Apple TV+ shows generally debut on Fridays, including previous seasons of “Ted Lasso.” “Ted Lasso”‘s third season will be the first mid-week show on the service.

How many episodes will there be?

There will be 12 episodes in “Ted Lasso” Season 3, just like Season 2, which means the finale will air on May 31. Here is the episode list, as they are announced:

Where can I watch ‘Ted Lasso’ Season 3?

Will this be the last season of ‘Ted Lasso’?

It looks like it! In an interview with Deadline, the show’s star, Jason Sudeikis, said, “This is the end of this story that we wanted to tell, that we were hoping to tell, that we loved to tell.” Sudeikis does seem open to the idea of spinoff series.

Brett Goldstein, who plays Roy Kent and is also a writer and producer on the series, was quoted in a piece in The Times U.K. as saying that the show was always planned as three seasons, a sentiment echoed by Sudeikis and Brendan Hunt (coach Beard). When asked if season three would be the last, he said, “We are writing it like that.”

But in none of Apple’s promotional material is season 3 hailed as the grand finale for Ted Lasso. However, Apple also hasn’t announced that the show has been picked up for a fourth season, which also seems odd given the show’s popularity and the rumors about the final season.

It appears that Apple and the show’s creators were perhaps not prepared for how successful and beloved the show would be, and it would likely only take some small changes to the Season 3 finale to leave the door open for further seasons.
