Jack Lowden will star as the lead in Apple TV+’s forthcoming drama series, adapted from Philip Kerr’s “Berlin Noir” novels.

Selome Hailu for Variety:

Tom Shankland has joined the production as director and executive producer.

Lowden will play detective Bernie Gunther. The series begins based on the events of “Metropolis,” which was the last book published in the series but takes place in 1928, before the rest of the books, and gives Bernie’s origin story. Per the official description, “Bernie is a police officer, newly promoted to the intimidating and elite Berlin Murder Squad, and must investigate what seems to be a serial killer targeting victims on the fringes of society. Bernie’s Berlin is a city of unprecedented freedom and dizzying turbulence, the Nazis just a distant nightmare waiting in the wings. With the political and social world shifting to a new norm, we see Bernie fighting for truth, whatever the cost.”

MacDailyNews Take: Lowden is uniformly excellent in Slow Horses.
