Apple’s standard AirPods 4 offer reliable performance and excellent sound.

There’s a new pair of AirPods Pro on the scene, but Apple’s latest entry-level buds — the AirPods 4 — are still worth a look if you’re looking for something cheaper, especially now that they’re on sale for Prime Big Deal Days. Normally $129, you can currently grab them for an all-time low of $89 at Amazon, Walmart, and Best Buy, or pick them up in the configuration that offers active noise cancellation for $119 ($60 off) at Amazon and Walmart.

AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC)

A hands-on photo of Apple’s AirPods 4 wireless earbuds.

Where to Buy:

Although they’re not the most capable earbuds in Apple’s lineup, the AirPods 4 offer the best sound of any entry-level model to date, with improved bass and greater instrument separation. They also support Voice Isolation, which noticeably reduces background noise during calls, and boast an upgraded IP54 rating for improved water and dust resistance. Meanwhile, the model with active noise cancellation tunes out noise surprisingly well for the price, while adding wireless charging, a transparency mode, and Find My support for the case. Plus, the ANC model just received a batch of new features courtesy of a recent firmware update — including a new live translation tool that helps you understand what someone is saying in your preferred language.

Of course, there are a few features you’ll miss out on if you go with the entry-level AirPods 4 models over the AirPods Pro 3. Most notably, they lack a built-in heart rate sensor, which allows iPhone users to track calories burned and monitor progress across more than 50 different workouts, much like a traditional fitness tracker. The latest AirPods Pro also offer more powerful noise cancellation and sound, longer battery life, and a fifth ear tip option in the box (XXS). Still, unless you’re set on having the latest and greatest, the AirPods 4 remain an excellent budget option that offers plenty of features — and great sound — for a lot less.
