In a recent appearance on The Town podcast, Apple’s SVP of Services Eddy Cue — who oversees the Apple TV streaming platform — addressed speculation about its global subscriber base. When pressed on analyst projections pegging the figure at 40 million to 45 million, Cue revealed that the actual number is “significantly more” than 45 million.

Matthew Belloni for Puck:

“We haven’t said what our numbers are but we’re significantly more than that,” Cue responded.

He declined to elaborate further, but I believe that’s the first time Cue has given any indication of sub numbers.

“Look, it’s a lot harder than it looks,” he said of building a subscriber base with original shows and movies and without a legacy library of content, adding: “I didn’t forecast being out of production for a year and a half, I didn’t forecast a nine-month strike from that standpoint, so we were a little further behind than where I’d like to be. But where we are today is great.”

MacDailyNews Take: As suspected. Apple TV cannot win 628 awards from 2,819 award nominations and counting, including high-profile multi-Emmy Award-winning series such as “Severance,” “Slow Horses,” “The Studio,” and “Ted Lasso,” not to mention (but we will) the Best Picture Oscar winner “CODA,” and not amass a significant subscriber base.
