Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang announced a personal donation to fund the construction of President Donald Trump’s White House State Ballroom, joining other tech leaders in supporting the initiative. Huang’s net worth was estimated at $120 billion in May. Demolition crews have begun tearing down the East Wing to accommodate the new ballroom, which Trump estimates will cost around $300 million.

The White House complex has always lacked a dedicated large-scale ballroom. Formal events like state dinners, receptions, and balls were instead hosted in a combination of indoor rooms within the Executive Residence and temporary outdoor setups such as tents erected on the grassy South Lawn capable of holding 300–600 seated guests, depending on tent size (often 10,000–20,000 square feet). The cost of the tent setup was $1 million or more per event for assembly, teardown, and rentals. The tents were stored off-site and assembled by event crews.

Courtney Rozen and Stephen Nellis for Reuters:

“I’m delighted to be part of it,” he told reporters in Washington on Tuesday.

Amazon, Apple and Google are among the technology companies also supporting the construction. Nvidia on Wednesday became the first company to reach $5 trillion in market value. The company is at the center of the global AI industry.

The construction of the new White House State Ballroom is being entirely funded through private donations, including contributions from tech leaders like Huang, as well as companies such as Amazon, Apple, Google, Meta, and Lockheed Marti, among others.

The funds are being managed by the Trust for the National Mall, a nonprofit partnered with the National Park Service, and are tax-deductible for donors. Trump has personally pledged funds from his own wealth (estimated at over $7 billion), and as of late October 2025, no federal appropriations are involved.
