While the M5 MacBook Pro release on Wednesday is fresh in everyone’s mind, this is technology we’re talking about, and it’s always moving forward. Hence, Thursday’s report provides details about the M6 MacBook Pro that’s expected to be released in late 2026 or early 2027.
But besides that timeframe and the pricing (more on that in a bit), Thursday’s report by Bloomberg’s Mark Girman doesn’t really say anything new about what to expect in the M6 MacBook Pro. Gurman reiterates that Apple is implementing a lighter and thinner design, as well as OLED displays. The company could use a tadem OLED display similar to that found in the current iPad Pro. Apple is also abandoning the notch, instead going with a hole punch that’s “similar in concept to the Dynamic Island on the iPhone,” Gurman said.
And then there’s a marquee feature of the future MacBook: a touch screen. Gurman does provide a new bit in regards to this: the laptop’s hinge will be reinforced and use screen hardware so that the touch screen doesn’t move or bounce when touched. If you don’t want to use the touch screen, you don’t have to, since the laptop will still have a trackpad and keyboard.
How much will the new touchscreen MacBook Pro cost? “A few hundred dollars more” than the current MacBook Pro, due to “pricier components,” according to Gurman. A 14-inch M4 Pro MacBook Pro starts at $1,999/£1,999, so expect the M6 Pro starting price to break the $2,000/£2,000 barrier.
One thing about Gurman’s report on the pricing is that he refers to the current “high-end” MacBook Pro models for reference–he specifically left out the newly-released M5 MacBook Pro. That seems to indicate that Apple will implement this new design and OLED touchscreen in the M6 Pro and Max models and not in the base M6 MacBook Pro.
As for whether we’ll see a touchscreen MacBook Air or iMac, Gurman states that, “Apple isn’t actively developing additional touch-screen Macs.” The company is waiting to see the customer reaction before it decides on its plans. Gurman also stated that Apple has plans for the M5 MacBook Air in spring 2026, a Mac Studio and Mac mini update, and two new Mac displays.
