“In the third quarter of 2025, worldwide PC shipments were driven by the Windows 10 end-of-support (EOS) refresh cycle in most regions, while North America’s growth was limited to 1.6% as demand had been accelerated into the first half of the year due to anticipated import tariffs,” said Rishi Padhi, Research Principal at Gartner, in a statement. “Conversely, consumer demand remained subdued at the lower price points, impacted by persistent geopolitical and macroeconomic headwinds. Consumers continue to exhibit cautious spending behavior — delaying PC purchases and seeking promotional offers.
MacDailyNews Take: Last week, IDC estimated that Apple’s indomitable Macintosh posted shipment growth of 13.7% YoY in Q3 2205 as personal computer shipments during the quarter grew 9.4% from the prior year, with global volumes reaching 75.8 million units.
Of course, market share isn’t everything (or really much of anything) as Apple’s Mac captures the majority of worldwide personal computer profits, estimated at around 70%*.
*Using conservative estimates for operating margins (Apple’s Mac at ~25% vs. PC peddlers at ~4% based on vendor reports of low/single-digit non-Mac [personal computer margins), Macintosh accounts for ~70% of the PC industry’s industry operating profits.
