After the hit Apple TV+ series “The Last Frontier,” Apple Original Films and director Sam Hargrave are reuniting for their next collaboration. Hargrave is in negotiations to direct an adaptation of Dark Horse Comics’ “Last Flight Out,” which Apple Original Films is developing alongside Chernin Entertainment.
The movie is based on Marc Guggenheim’s acclaimed graphic novel from Dark Horse, with illustrations by Eduardo Ferigato.
Justin Kroll and Mike Fleming Jr. for Deadline:
Apple Original Films landed the package, which sources say was in the seven-figure range…
Hargrave will produce along with Chernin Entertainment’s Peter Chernin and David Ready as well Dark Horse Entertainment’s Mike Richardson and Keith Goldberg are set to produce. Guggenheim will adapt the script.
The novel series is about a father and daughter trying to reconcile at the end of the world. Apple and Chernin view this as a major event film and, given Hargrave’s track record with action-heavy pics like his “Extraction” films at Netflix and most recently “The Last Frontier” series, of which he helmed several episodes, “Last Flight Out” feels like the perfect project to add to his slate.
MacDailyNews Take: We’ll see if it gets a theater run, like “F1,’ before hitting Apple TV or goes straight to streaming à la “The Gorge.”
