Macworld June was a very good month for the Mac. Not only did we get to see the next version of macOS in Sonoma, but we also got a new 15-inch MacBook Air that’ll be a hit, a Mac Studio update, the M2 Ultra chip, and to top it all off, we finally got a new Apple silicon Mac Pro. That’s a whole lot of Mac goodness, which is great because they might need to hold us over for a while. Based on projected chip production schedules and the current state of the Mac lineup, it’s very possible that the only Mac news we’re going to get between now and the first few months of 2024 is the release of…

Apple’s stock has split five times since the company went public. The stock split on a 4-for-1 basis on August 28, 2020, a 7-for-1 basis on June 9, 2014, and split on a 2-for-1 basis on February 28, 2005, June 21, 2000, and June 16, 1987. In each of the five times that Apple has split its stock, it was undergoing strong growth in sales and profitability, save for the split in the year 2000, when sales dipped between the dot-com bust and the release of the iPod in October 2001. It has been nearly four years since Apple’s last stock split. In the last two splits, the company appears to have intended to bring the share price down to…
Apple’s latest Mac Pro targets professionals with highly demanding computing workloads. But we talked to those professionals, and they don’t want it — because Apple’s other computers are just too good. Apple’s latest Mac Pro was finally revealed at this year’s Worldwide Developers Conference as a machine for the most power user of power users. The video discussed audio engineering, color grading, and video transcoding. Apple’s product page mentions code compiling, animation, compositing 8K scenes, 3D rendering, and “analyzing enormous datasets.” This isn’t just for pros, Apple seems to claim; it’s for capital-P Pros. Exactly who these pros are and why the Mac Pro is the perfect device for them remains somewhat unclear to me, even after testing the new…
Apple earlier this month introduced the new Mac Studio featuring M2 Max and the new M2 Ultra chips, delivering a huge boost in performance and enhanced connectivity in its compact design. Mac Studio front (top image) and rear Featuring up to 192GB of unified memory, Mac Studio with M2 Ultra has far more memory than the most advanced workstation graphics cards, taking on demanding workloads other systems can’t even process. Mac Studio with M2 Max is up to 50 percent faster than the previous-generation Mac Studio and 4x faster than the most powerful Intel-based 27-inch iMac. It features a 12-core CPU, up to a 38-core GPU, and up to 96GB of unified memory with 400GB/s of memory bandwidth. Mac Studio…
Macworld The iPhone 15 Pro this year is going to be powered by the new A17 system-on-chip, which should be the first large-scale consumer chip in the world to be made on a 3nm N3B manufacturing process. That means a lot more logic and cache in the same size chip, and better power efficiency at the same performance level as current 5nm iPhone chips. We expect big things from the A17. A new rumor from a Weibo user proclaiming to be an experienced integrated circuits developer suggests that Apple is going to switch production of the A17 at some time next year from TSMC’s N3B process to the upcoming N3E process. The N5E process is estimated to have better costs…
