The popular weather app CARROT Weather today was updated with two key new features: CarPlay support and automatic Live Activities. When accessed via CarPlay, CARROT Weather becomes a navigation app like Google Maps. You can enter your destination and receive turn-by-turn directions, with the added benefit of being able to view the weather along your driving route. The weather features include live radar, severe weather warnings, wind speeds, visibility levels, and more. CARROT Weather's turn-by-turn directions are as snarky as its weather forecasts, so prepare for remarks such as "turn left on Rodeo Drive, meatbag," or "you went the wrong way, idiot, now I have to recalculate your entire route." With auto-starting Live Activities, CARROT Weather's next-hour precipitation chart can…
A batch of newly leaked images show CarPlay 2 widgets that look similar to familiar iPhone, iPad and Mac interfaces. (via Cult of Mac - Apple news, rumors, reviews and how-tos)
Apple said the first vehicles with next-generation CarPlay would arrive in 2024. It didn't happen. Now what? We are two weeks into 2025, and Apple has yet to update or remove the 2024 timeframe for next-generation CarPlay advertised on its website. Apple also remains completely silent about whether or not it still plans to launch the system. There are still a few signs of hope. First, 9to5Mac recently reported that additional references to next-generation CarPlay were added in iOS 18.3 beta 2's code. Second, MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris today uncovered some additional next-generation CarPlay images that were filed in a EU database last month. Apple previously showed that next-generation CarPlay will feature customizable widgets, and the images provide a closer…
Apple's website still says the first vehicle models with support for next-generation CarPlay would "arrive in 2024," but that did not happen. At this point, it is unclear if next-generation CarPlay will ever launch. Apple has not publicly commented on its plans in quite a long time, but it continued to make preparations behind the scenes throughout 2024. In November, for example, a few redesigned next-generation CarPlay icons appeared within iOS 18.2's code. Apple did not respond to our several requests for comment about next-generation CarPlay throughout 2024. It would not be surprising if the timeframe listed on Apple's website is quietly updated to 2025 over the coming days. It is unclear if Apple needs more time to finish developing…
The next generation of CarPlay deeply integrates with a car’s hardware, providing content for multiple screens within the vehicle. The “next generation of CarPlay” that Apple first announced in 2022 and, as MacRumors points out, that the company continues to say on its CarPlay webpage will arrive in 2024 is MIA. Wes Davis for The Verge: ‎ So far, we’ve only seen changes like CarPlay mapping directions appearing in the instrument cluster in cars from manufacturers like Polestar, Porsche, and Lincoln. Porsche and Aston Martin had announced their cars would be the first to get the new CarPlay, but both recently declined to give Wired a timeline for its rollout. Other companies that Apple said would support its new CarPlay…
Apple's website continues to state that the first vehicle models with support for next-generation CarPlay will "arrive in 2024," but with less than three weeks remaining in the year, time is running short for the company to meet that objective. One reason to remain optimistic is that a similar situation played out last year. Apple said the first vehicles with next-generation CarPlay would be previewed in late 2023, and while that seemed more and more unlikely as the year-end approached, Aston Martin and Porsche finally shared some dashboard concepts on December 20. Just in time! That's all we have, so far, though. Concepts, leaks, and promises. Aston Martin last year said next-generation CarPlay would be available in its DB12 sports…
