Following Apple and Google's joining forces to combat stalking via tracking devices, screenshots from a forthcoming Android app show how it will alert users to nearby AirTags.AirTagApple and Google announced their joint work on anti-stalking measures in May 2023, with the first Android app expected to be officially released by the end of the year. Apple is the Online Safety Bill as it could be used to force encrypted messaging tools like iMessage, WhatsApp, Signal and other to scan messages for, ostensibly, child sexual abuse material (CSAM). Apple’s opposition comes as 80 organizations and tech experts have written to UK Technology Minister Chloe Smith urging a rethink. In today’s Power On newsletter by Mark Gurman, he reports that Apple has opened up the Apple Vision Pro headset testing to more employees inside the company following the WWDC unveiling. One issue that has come up in expanded testing is the weight. The Vision Pro headset is not light, partly because it is made of aluminium and glass rather than plastic materials. To combat this, Apple has developed a top strap that helps mitigate the pressure of the weight on the user’s face.
