Meta today officially launched Threads, the new social media app that it has been working on as an alternative to Twitter. Threads was meant to launch on Thursday, but the company pushed it live early due to the excitement surrounding its debut. Threads is described as "Instagram's text-based conversation app," and it is unmistakable as a Twitter clone. With the app, users can post "Threads" that other users can reply to, with Threads from followers showing up in a main timeline. Apple's market capitalization has once again hit $3 trillion as the company's shares opened at $191.78 this morning, up just over 1% compared to yesterday's closing price. It has been nearly 18 months since Apple very briefly hit the milestone in January 2022 before declining along with the overall market. At the beginning of this year, Apple's value dipped below $2 trillion, but the company's shares have risen 53% so far this year, pushing them back to all-time highs in recent days. Apple and Spotify are back in court this week, as the EU antitrust case remains ongoing. The EU reached its preliminary conclusion in 2021 that App Store unfairly favored Apple Music over Spotify and other music streaming services. Via Bloomberg, on Friday, Apple lawyers will argue that it has addressed competition concerns in the last two years and no more changes are necessary.
