Apple is known to be working on an updated version of the Apple Watch Ultra that uses a next-generation microLED display, but the device has again been postponed due to manufacturing issues, according to market research firm Trendforce (via The Elec). Information shared in April by display analyst Ross Young suggested that an Apple Watch Ultra with microLED display would launch in the second half of 2025 at the earliest, rather than late 2024 as was originally rumored. Now, Trendforce believes it has been postponed for a second time and is unlikely to emerge before the first quarter of 2026, because of problems relating to high manufacturing costs which need to be solved before Apple can proceed to mass production.…
Major manufacturing issues mean Apple has cut orders for the Apple Vision Pro by 60% for its first year, and the more affordable second generation model is also delayed.Apple Vision ProApple will of course not confirm any orders or volumes of manufacturing for any of its devices. The Financial Times is reporting this morning that Apple has significantly cut its targets for Apple Vision Pro unit shipments. Down from an expected million units per year, Apple will now only make around 400,000 Vision Pro headsets in 2024. This is due to manufacturing issues arising from the headset’s complex design. Construction work on TSMC’s Arizona chip plant, which is set to make chips for some older Apple devices, has run over budget and behind schedule – leading to plans to send over hundreds of additional workers from Taiwan to try to address the problems. The false-positive emergency calling problem isn't just one affecting iPhones, as it seems that the same thing is happening on Android, delayed by the fragmented nature of Android update rollouts.Apple devices like the iPhone and the Apple Watch have features built in to automatically call for help if the user is involved in a car accident, a fall, or a number of other situations when they may not be able to place the call themselves. However, while useful, there have been instances where the iPhone believes something has happened, with the false positive resulting in a phone call to emergency services that's not actually needed.It turns out that Android has the same issue. Spotify is planning a more expensive subscription option that’s expected to include “high-fidelity” audio in an effort to drive more revenue. Apple Music began offering lossless audio in June 2021, along with Spatial Audio (that Spotify does not offer), all at no additional cost to Apple Music subscribers.
