Macworld WWDC 2023 is creeping up, and with Apple fans starved of event hype since the iPhone 14 launch well over eight months ago, expectations are high. Of course the Reality Pro headset, if the company has managed to get it finished in time, will be the flagship announcement. But one of Apple’s less heralded products might be the sleeper hit of the show. Last month, the respected leaker-analyst Mark Gurman claimed watchOS 10 will be so good that no one will care about the (reportedly rather underwhelming) new Apple Watch hardware coming later in the year. What that means in practice seems to be an updated interface, and while the use of the word “updated” rather than “new” implies…
Macworld As it currently stands, if you want to be able to use fast charging with an iPhone, the charger must be MagSafe certified. But according to a leak from yeux1122, chargers won’t have to be MagSafe certified to fast charge the upcoming iPhone 15. The reason for this is the Wireless Power Consortium’s new Qi2 (pronounced “chee-two”) open standard, which incorporates a new Magnetic Power Profile that is built upon Apple’s MagSafe. Apple is a member of the WPC and had input on Qi2 to ensure that the magnetic connection has the proper alignment for efficient charging. The WPC announced Qi2 back in January, with the first Qi2 products expected to follow later this year. In other words, the…
Photo by Andrew Marino / The Verge A great digital audio workstation for the iPad with some experimental ways to make music Over the past few days, I’ve been having a lot of fun composing riffs, beats, and rhythms using the new iPad version of Apple’s music production software Logic Pro. The subtly redesigned app translates the company’s pro-level audio app to a touchscreen interface really well, and thankfully, it does not dumb it down for a mobile screen. Those who have used GarageBand on an iPad will be familiar with a touch interface for virtual instruments and recording, but with Logic Pro, you have a whole lot more things to adjust — more knobs, faders, automations, plug-ins, and samples.…

Macworld As an editor who’s been covering Apple for a long time, I’m often asked by family, friends, and acquaintances about which Mac to buy. I have knowledge and insight that people can tap into conveniently through a conversation, saving someone from hours of research, a task that can be daunting, intimidating, and confusing. When using Google or another search engine, results appear as a list of websites, and then it’s up to you to find the information you need. That could take a lot of time, maybe even several hours. But generative artificial intelligence (AI) tools such as ChatGPT and Google Bard can possibly cut that time down to a few minutes, akin to the conversations I have. However,…
