Macworld If you don’t want to wait to install the next version of macOS – which we now know will be called Sonoma after Apple reveal all the details at WWDC in June, you can join the beta program and try it out on your Mac before it is released to the public in September or October. The developer beta of macOS 14 Sonoma is already available to download. This year the developer beta isn’t just available to developers who have paid to join Apple’s Developer Program (which costs $99/£79), Apple has opened it up to anyone who is a registered developer. We explain how to get a free developer account below. The slightly more stable public beta version will…

During the months between June and September Apple works on the upcoming version (which in 2023 is iOS 17) with help from developers and public testers. If you want to try out the new operating system it’s easy to get onboard. In this article, we walk you through the steps required to get the latest iOS beta. Apple's developer betas have historically been limited to developers who have a paid account that costs $99 per year, but with the launch of the most recent betas, that's changing. Anyone can now enroll in the free version of the Apple Developer program and get access to beta releases. All that's required to download betas is an Apple ID. "OS beta releases" is now listed as an available resource even for those who are not members of the Apple Developer Program. Apple has officially made the developer betas available for free. Macworld Along with new versions of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS, Apple will also letting developers and public beta testers try out the new watchOS 10 beta on their Apple Watches. Here’s how to get it. Should you install the watchOS Beta? Before we begin, a note of caution. One of the biggest problems with running the Watch beta is that an Apple Watch cannot be restored to the previous version of watchOS once the public beta is installed. Since it’s a beta release software, watchOS 10 will include bugs and issues that could affect performance and battery life. If there are any apps and features that you can’t live without, you might want to hold off on installing—or install it…
Macworld Apple began the beta testing process for iOS 16.6 just a day after the iOS 16.5 release and about two weeks before the expected first iOS 17 beta arrives at WWDC. The beta was first released to developers first on May 19, and to public beta testers on May 22. We don’t expect there to be much in the way of new features in this release–iOS 16 is about as mature as it’s going to be, and all eyes are on the impending features announced for iOS 17. Still, small tweaks and usability upgrades are possible just as we got in iOS 16.5, and of course security updates are never-ending. Update 05/31/23: Apple has released the second beta of…
Macworld Update 5/31/23: Apple has released the developer beta 2 of macOS Ventura 13.5. The public beta 2 will follow later this week. Apple on Friday released the macOS Ventura 13.5 beta to developers. This is likely the last Ventura beta before Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference kicks off on June 5, when Apple is expected to unveil macOS 14. The 13.5 beta release comes a day after Apple released Ventura 13.4 to the general public. That version includes a new Sports feed for Apple News, bug fixes, and security updates. macOS Ventura 13.5: New features Apple hasn’t posted release notes for the 13.5 beta yet, so it’s not yet known what’s in this beta. It will likely include few new…
