Macworld It’s been more than three years since Apple announced the Studio Display, a cheaper alternative to the Pro Display XDR for Mac users looking for a great external monitor with Retina quality. Even with rumors suggesting that Apple will launch an updated monitor next year with better technologies, I couldn’t help myself and bought a Studio Display a while ago. Why on earth did I buy one now? That’s exactly what I asked myself right before buying it. But after using it for several months, I’m happy to say that I don’t regret it. At the same time, I know it may not be the right choice for everyone. If you’re torn between buying the current Studio Display now…
Macworld Apple’s Studio Display, which came out almost three and a half years ago, may finally get a refresh early next year. That’s if the latest accidental code leak is to be believed. MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris discovered references to the unreleased product in code “that Apple didn’t mean to publish,” the site explains. The code mentioned “J427” multiple times, which is presumed to be a codename for the Studio Display 2. Previous rumors suggested it could come out in early 2026, so it makes sense for the device to exist in a pre-release testing form at this stage. Interestingly, the code also contains references to something else: J527. We don’t know for sure what product that codename has been…
Macworld If there’s one area where Samsung beats Apple (other than folding phones), it’s displays. Sure, Apple’s Studio Display is gorgeous and all, but $1,599 is an awful lot for a 27-inch display. Thankfully, there are plenty of excellent Samsung options to choose from, such as this Odyssey G7 gaming monitor for $450 at B&H today, a massive savings of $350 with the automatic coupon at checkout. Granted, you’re giving up a little resolution (it’s only 4K versus 5K on the studio display) and max brightness (350 nits versus 600 nits), and you won’t get Spatial Audio or a webcam, but you’ll get a high-refresh display thanks to the 144Hz refresh rate and 1ms response time, enabling a smooth performance…
We go hands-on with the Arovia Splay: a portable foldable monitor that delivers a bright 25-inch screen anywhere you need one. (via Cult of Mac - Apple news, rumors, reviews and how-tos)
Macworld Apple’s Macs are all up to date (well, except for the Mac Pro), but the company’s displays are a bit outdated. Good news, though: according to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, new models are in the works but they won’t arrive for at least several more months. It had previously reported that Apple is working on a new Studio Display (codenamed J427) for release by the end of 2025 or in early 2026. In this latest report, Gurman reiterates the same information but adds “one twist” that Apple is working on a second display (codenamed J527). Gurman speculates that the second display could be “a second model with a different screen size or set of specifications,” but it’s…
Macworld Listen, Apple monitors are great and all, but they’re expensiiiiive. And the truth is Samsung monitors aren’t just well-priced, but they’re also high enough quality that even some of the folks on our team have them on their desks. The 32-inch Samsung Smart Monitor M8, for instance, won’t just serve as a monitor, but also as a smart TV of sorts. Even better, this one’s only $400 at Amazon right now, a 43 percent discount from its $700 MSRP. That’s a mere fraction of what you’d pay for the Apple Studio Display. Sure, it may not be a 5K monitor like the Studio Display, but at 4K it’s still very sharp. It even comes with AI upscaling so even…
