Facebook parent company Meta today announced the Quest 3, its next-generation mixed reality headset launching later this year. The announcement comes just days ahead of WWDC, where Apple is expected to unveil its own long-awaited AR/VR headset. Meta said the Quest 3 features a 40% slimmer and more comfortable design, a higher-resolution display, and up to twice the graphics performance as the Quest 2, released in 2020. The headset will start at $499.99 with 128GB of storage, and Meta will also be lowering the starting price of the Quest 2 to $299.99 on June 4. The company plans to share more details about the Quest 3 during its Meta Connect event on September 27. Apple's headset is rumored to cost…
The latest Mini is the smallest model in Apple’s lineup, making it particularly ideal for reading. | Photo by Vjeran Pavic / The Verge Let’s face it: many of us have considered opting for the 10th-gen iPad because it’s one of the more affordable options in Apple’s current lineup. But today’s deal on its midrange sibling changes things. Right now, you can buy Apple’s latest iPad Mini with Wi-Fi and 64GB of storage at its all-time low of $399.99 ($100 off) at Amazon and Best Buy — which is even less than the price of the latest iPad. Unlike the 10th-gen iPad, the iPad Mini is compatible with the second-gen Apple Pencil. It’s also lighter, with a smaller 8.3-inch screen…
Macworld With less than a week to go before the WWDC keynote, rumors are continuing to roll in as we anticipate one of the most important keynotes in Apple’s history as it unveils the long-anticipated AR headset to the world. And according to a new report from Mark Gurman, that won’t be the only new product Apple brings to the show. In a tweet, Gurman reports that “several new Macs” will arrive at WWDC as one of the three “major focus areas” of the keynote (the various operating systems and headset are the other two). Unsurprisingly, he says that the keynote will be “one of Apple’s longest ever and easily exceed two hours.” I’m expecting three major focus areas next…
Apple today added the Thunderbolt Display and the first-generation iPad Air to its obsolete products list, meaning the devices are no longer eligible for repairs or other hardware service at Apple Stores or Apple Authorized Service Providers. Apple classifies a product as obsolete once more than seven years have passed since the company stopped distributing it for sale. Apple discontinues all hardware service for obsolete products, and service providers cannot order parts for obsolete products. Both the Thunderbolt Display and the original iPad Air were discontinued in 2016. Introduced in 2011, the Thunderbolt Display featured a 27-inch screen with 1440p resolution, a 720p camera, three USB 2.0 ports, a FireWire 800 port, a Gigabit Ethernet port, and a Thunderbolt port.…
Macworld Apple introduced the Mac Studio with M1 Max and M1 Ultra chips in March 2022. Positioned as a brand-new pro-tier Mac, it’s best described as a Mac mini on steroids. However, now that the M2 Pro Mac mini has arrived, the decision to buy a desktop Mac is a little trickier. There’s also the overdue Apple silicon Mac Pro that is set to soon join the mix. With a trio of pro-tier Macs, all eyes are now on the second-generation Mac Studio: When it will arrive? How fast will it be? And how Apple will differentiate it from the Mac mini and the Mac Pro? Mac Studio: Release date  Now that the M2 Max chip has arrived in the…
Macworld It’s looking more and more like Apple’s next big thing won’t be something that fits in your pocket or a bag. Rather it could be another wearable device–specifically an Apple headset that provides augmented and virtual reality. This strongly rumored Apple VR headset has been dubbed “Reality Pro”, but nobody knows for sure what Apple will call the headset, or for that matter, what the Apple headset will do, but a combination of VR and AR looks likely to be offered. Analyst Ming Chi-Kuo said back in 2021 that Apple’s “goal is to replace the ‌iPhone‌ with AR in 10 years.” Here’s everything we know so far about Apple’s rumored mixed-reality headset which could arrive in 2023–perhaps as soon…
