Macworld When Apple launched iOS 15 back in 2021, the updated software included a new feature in Photos called Visual Look Up. This neat AI-powered tool can recognize animals, plants, and landmarks in your photos, and provide information about them when tapped. Here’s how it works: When you open a picture of some greenery in Photos, for example, you’ll notice a couple of small stars next to the information icon in the bottom bar, which means iOS has spotted something it recognizes. Tap the icon and you’ll quickly be told that the nearest tree is probably a European ash. Very handy, albeit within a relatively small number of spheres. Macworld In a major coup for its Apple Arcade subscription gaming service, Apple has announced the imminent arrival of the hugely popular title Stardew Valley. The game, which blends RPG and farming-sim elements into a simple and relaxing whole, is already available on the iOS App Store (it costs $4.99/£4.99) and numerous other platforms. Adhering to Apple’s policy of only adding new and exclusive games to Arcade, this version will be a “plus” edition of the game with “new town upgrades, dating events, crops, fishing ponds, hats, clothing, and new pets.” It also won’t have in-app purchases. Regardless of exclusive content, this remains a huge get for Apple Arcade. Despite having been created (at least initially) by a single developer,…
Photo by Becca Farsace / The Verge It was inevitable that despite their hefty $549 price, Apple’s AirPods Max headphones would eventually start to miss out on the company’s latest software enhancements. Headphones are basically computers now and have evolved into their own platform, so just like with any iPhone or Mac, Apple’s ecosystem tricks and new features increasingly require more powerful silicon and revamped components. We started to see the swan song for the two-and-a-half-years-old AirPods Max earlier this month at WWDC when Apple announced several new features coming this fall that, in nearly all cases, will exclusively apply to the second-generation AirPods Pro — and no other models. The headlining feature is called “Adaptive Audio,” a new sound…
Macworld Apple began the beta testing process for iOS 16.6 just a day after the iOS 16.5 release and about two weeks before the expected first iOS 17 developer beta arrives at WWDC. The beta was first released to developers first on May 19, and to public beta testers on May 22. We don’t expect there to be much in the way of new features in this release–iOS 16 is about as mature as it’s going to be, and all eyes are on the impending features announced for iOS 17. Still, small tweaks and usability upgrades are possible just as we got in iOS 16.5, and of course security updates are never-ending. Most of us have moved on to iOS…

The list includes major changes introduced with the iPhone 14 Pro last year, as well as new features rumored for iPhone 15 Pro models.
