Apple Personal Voice and Live Speech accessibility features. | Image: Apple Today, Apple previewed a bundle of new features designed for cognitive, vision, hearing, and mobility accessibility. That includes a new Personal Voice feature for people who may lose their ability to speak, allowing them to create “a synthesized voice that sounds like them” to talk with friends or family members. According to Apple, users can create a Personal Voice by reading a set of text prompts aloud for a total of 15 minutes of audio on the iPhone or iPad. Since the feature integrates with Live Speech, users can then type what they want to say and have their Personal Voice read it to whomever they want to talk…
Macworld Apple introduced the redesigned iMac with a new colorful design and M1 chip at its Spring Loaded event back in April 2021. Now we have passed the two-year anniversary of the new-look iMac, we’re hoping Apple will update it sometime in 2023 with a new chip – which would be fitting with this year marking 25 since Apple introduced the original G3 iMac – but the wait could be even longer.   Apple is well into the launch of the second generation of Apple silicon, with the M2 arriving in June 2022 and the M2 Pro and M2 Max coming in January. That makes the 24-inch iMac one of the few remaining M1 Macs. Can we expect Apple to…
Apple has registered a wordmark for "xrOS" in New Zealand, the first time the company has indirectly revealed both the name of the operating system for its upcoming headset and the official font and styling that accompanies it. Spotted by Parker Ortolani, the ‌xrOS‌ wordmark registered with the New Zealand Intellectual Property Office shows that Apple will use its San Fransisco typeface in ‌xrOS‌ marketing, just as it does for macOS, iOS, watchOS, and tvOS. "‌xrOS‌" is meant to stand for "extended reality." Extended reality represents both the augmented and virtual reality functions the headset will support. The name was already confirmed by internal Apple sources last year via Bloomberg, and Apple has also been trademarking ‌xrOS‌ in several countries…
Microsoft today announced it has completed its rollout of iPhone support for its Phone Link app on Windows 11, as spotted by The Verge. With the Phone Link app for Windows 11 and the Link to Windows app for iOS, iPhone users can make and receive phone calls, send and receive text messages, and view notifications directly on their PC. Notably, this means Windows 11 technically supports iMessage, although there are several limitations, including a lack of support for group chats, photos, videos, and conversation history beyond the current chat session. All messages appear as gray bubbles in the Phone Link app, meaning iMessages and SMS text messages cannot be differentiated on a PC. In addition, messages are only delivered…
Macworld The M2 generation of Macs hasn’t yet finished rolling out, with a 15-inch M2 MacBook Air and potentially an M2 Ultra Mac Pro expected to debut at Apple’s upcoming WWDC event. But the company is already working hard to prepare the following generation of devices, with testing on the M3 processors well underway according to a new rumor. In the latest installment of his Power On newsletter, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg claims that Apple is working on the next update to its Mac chip, citing data shared by an understandably anonymous App Store developer. The version of the M3 spotted in testing, believed to be an approximation of the baseline M3 Pro, has 12 CPU cores, split into six…
