Apple's mixed reality headset will be available in several configuration options and have a starting price of $1,999, not the ~$3,000 we have been led to believe, claims a sketchy last-minute rumor coming out of Asia. Apple headset concept render by Marcus Kane In the lead-up to Apple's expected AR/VR headset unveiling at WWDC, rumors have fairly consistently placed the price of the device at around $3,000, which would make it far more expensive than those from rivals, which cost about $300 to $900. The $3,000 figure first appeared in a 2021 report from The Information, and has since been backed by other reputable outlets. Indeed, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, who has called the headset a "pricey, niche precursor" to a…
Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has confirmed that Apple is nearing the introduction of what appears to be a refreshed Mac Studio model, indicating that it could be announced at WWDC next week. On Twitter, Gurman explained that the new Mac in question is codenamed "J475." The current ‌Mac Studio‌ is codenamed "J375," suggesting that the new machine is indeed a next-generation ‌Mac Studio‌ model. Earlier this week, Gurman reported that Apple is testing two desktop Macs equipped with the M2 Max and ‌‌M2‌‌ Ultra chips. The ‌M2‌ Max was released in January upon the launch of the latest 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models, but the ‌M2‌ Ultra chip is new and would succeed the M1 Ultra chip that Apple uses…
Macworld Apple’s M-series processors are a hit. They deliver spectacular performance and power efficiency—so much so that they instantly caused a huge shakeup in Intel and AMD processors that suddenly found themselves looking slow, hot, and power-hungry. The inaugural M1 chip revitalized the MacBook and brought us the first exciting desktop Macs in years, including a redesigned iMac and brand-new Mac Studio. But since then? The MacBooks are still keeping pace, but desktop Macs are being left behind. The M1 conundrum Let’s start with the iMac. Updated to a new design and a single, 24-inch size just about two years ago, it’s got an M1 chip. It’s been 10 months since the M2 was released–why does the 14-inch iMac still…
Ahead of new iPhone launches, case makers invest significant money into sourcing leaked details on updated designs to be the first to come out with appropriate cases. That often results in dummy models that are accurate replicas of future iPhones, such as the iPhone 15 dummy models that we're sharing today. We were able to get our hands on a set of dummy models that represent the ‌iPhone 15‌, ‌iPhone 15‌ Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and ‌iPhone 15 Pro‌ Max, aka the four new iPhones that we're expecting Apple to launch in September 2023. We've already heard endless rumors about the ‌iPhone 15‌ models, but it helps to be able to…
Macworld On May 23, the Warner Bros. Discovery mega-media company pulled the trigger on its big streaming app upgrade–well, downgrade, really. Yesterday was the launch of the new “Max” app and service, where the company put all its streaming content together in one place. Practically speaking, this means adding Discovery content to HBO Max. For the Apple TV, the experience is a huge step backward. There’s a new app, technical glitches, missing features, and worse pricing–and there’s no good reason for any of it. It’s a comedy of errors that smells of executive meddling against the better advice of real product designers who know what people actually want. Look for the Max app Fire up the HBO Max app and…
The iOS 17 update that Apple plans to announce in June will include a dedicated journaling app, reports Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The Wall Street Journal in April highlighted Apple's work on a Day One-style journaling app, but at the time, it was not clear if it would come in ‌iOS 17‌. According to Gurman, the app is indeed slated for inclusion in ‌iOS 17‌, and it will introduce "note taking and a stronger social element" to the iPhone. There are no other details on the app in the report, but The ‌Wall Street Journal‌ previously said that the app will let users keep track of their daily activities and their thoughts. Apple will give people topics to write about such…
